Thiruparankundram AIADMK legislator AK Bose passes away at 69

Chennai, Aug 2: Thiruparankundram AIADMK legislator AK Bose on Thursday passed away from a cardiac arrest. Bose who was staying in Madurai's Jaihindpuram complained of chest pain. However, he was pronounced dead as soon as his family took him to a private hospital in Madurai on Wednesday night, according to reports. Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami is likely to visit his home later in the day.

The Thiruparankundram assembly will now see a second by-election in two years. Bose had contested and won a by-election after his predecessor SM Seenivelu died in 2016.

AK Bose had represented Tiruparangundram earlier in 2006 and Madurai North in 2011. With the death of the lawmaker, AIADMK's tally in the 234-member assembly has dropped down to 115. He was one of the fence-sitters when former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa's close confidante V.K. Sasikala and T.T.V. Dhinakaran were expelled from the party.

Bose started his political career as a member of AIADMK youth wing. He had also served as party's Madurai urban district secretary. He became MLA for the first time in 2006 from the Thiruparankundram Assembly Constituency. He won from the Madurai North Assembly Constituency in 2011, but was denied a seat in the 2016 assembly general election.

Bose is survived by his wife Bagyalakshmi, two sons and two daughters.
