Tamil Nadu Weather: Will It Rain In Chennai Over The Weekend?

The sporadic early morning rainfall is anticipated to disrupt the daily routine of Chennai residents over the next few days.

The Regional Meteorological Center has predicted heavy rains for 14 districts in Tamil Nadu while the rest of the state will witness light to moderate rain.

A cyclonic circulation over the Comorin area and its vicinity, positioned at an altitude of approximately 4.5 km above mean sea level. Hence, the capital city is expected to get moderate rain at night in the days to come.

Nevertheless, the daytime is expected to witness a surge in maximum temperatures, reaching approximately 35 to 36 degrees Celsius at the Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam weather stations for the next 48 hours.

Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Salem, Namakkal, Dharmapuri, Tirupathur, Krishnagiri, Erode, Nilgiris, and Coimbatore are predicted to get heavy rains with lightning and thunderstorm under the influence of cyclonic circulation

"Light to moderate rain at a few places with thunderstorm and lightning at one or two places is likely to occur over Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal area. Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Nilgiris, Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri & Tirupattur districts of Tamilnadu," a statement from the RMC said.

The centre has issued a yellow warning for these regions for the upcoming two to three days. Over the past 24 hours, the districts along the southern and western ghats of Tamil Nadu experienced substantial rain spells. Among them, Kanyakumari recorded the highest rainfall at 11 cm, followed by Madurai and Dindigul with 9 cm of rainfall each, while Dharmapuri received 7 cm.
