Tamil Nadu Weather Update: Yellow Alert For Tiruppur, Theni, Dindigul; Light Rains In Chennai

The Regional Meteorological Centre has given a yellow alert to Nilgiris and Ghat areas of Coimbatore districts while giving a yellow alert for Ghat areas of Tiruppur, Theni and Dindigul districts today.

"Light to moderate rain at a few places with thunderstorm and lightning at one or two places is likely to occur over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area. Heavy to very rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Nilgiris and Ghat areas of Coimbatore districts. Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Ghat areas of Tiruppur, Theni and Dindigul districts," the weather agency said in its daily bulletin.

The orange alert is issued as a warning of extremely bad weather with the potential of disruption in commute with road and rail closures, and interruption of power supply.

Yellow indicates severely bad weather spanning across several days. It also suggests that the weather could change for the worse, causing disruption in day-to-day activities.

The sky condition is expected to be partly cloudy. Some areas may experience light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 34-35°C, while the minimum temperature is expected to be around 25-26°C.

The weather agency stated Madurai City recorded the highest maximum temperature at 39.6°C. Namakkal and Erode recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 20.0°C.

Meanwhile, Wood Briar Estate, Harisan Malayalam Ltd., and Wentworth Estate in The Nilgiris district recorded the highest rainfall, each measuring 13 cm.
