Tamil Nadu Weather Update: Will It Rain In Chennai & Other Districts On Tuesday? Check Latest Alerts
Tamil Nadu, reeling from days of relentless rainfall, can expect some relief starting Tuesday as the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) predicts a decrease in rainfall across most parts of the state. However, red alerts persist for the Nilgiris and Ghat areas of Coimbatore, signalling continued heavy downpours in these regions.
While districts such as Coimbatore, Erode, Tiruppur, Theni, and Dindigul remain under yellow alerts, the situation is relatively stable in the KTCC region (Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur, Chennai, and Chengalpattu), where no alerts have been issued. Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is expected in Chennai on Tuesday.

Krishnagiri has witnessed record rainfall, with Uthangarai receiving 503 mm, marking a once-in-300-years event. Harur in Dharmapuri recorded 331 mm, contributing to severe flooding and damage. Villupuram district also experienced significant rainfall, with RSCL-2 Kedar and Soorapattu receiving 42 cm and 38 cm, respectively.
Over 25 districts have been severely affected by heavy rains, causing extensive flooding in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Chennai. The continuous downpour, fueled by Cyclone Fengal, has disrupted air and rail services across the state.

Schools and Colleges Shut, Rescue Operations Underway
Authorities have declared a holiday for schools and colleges in heavily affected areas, including Cuddalore district and Puducherry, to ensure public safety.
In Tiruvannamalai district, a building collapsed due to a mudslide, trapping at least seven people. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is leading rescue efforts to locate and save the trapped individuals.

While many regions anticipate relief from the incessant rain, the focus remains on rescue operations and rehabilitation in the worst-hit areas. Authorities urge residents in flood-prone zones to stay alert and prioritize safety as recovery efforts continue.
Yellow Alert: Moderate rainfall expected. Residents should remain cautious, especially in low-lying areas, and carry essentials like umbrellas.
Orange Alert: Heavy rainfall predicted. Stay indoors where possible, stock up on essentials, and prepare for possible disruptions.
Red Alert: Extremely heavy rainfall anticipated. Follow evacuation instructions, avoid unnecessary travel, and prioritize safety measures.
