Tamil Nadu Weather Update: Minimal Change, Still Hot Across Interior

The weather across Tamil Nadu remained more or less the same in the last 24 hours, according to the Regional Meteorological Department.

In the 24-hour period, the maximum temperatures in Tamil Nadu showed minimal variation, remaining mostly above normal to significantly higher by 2-4°C across numerous areas in the plains of interior Tamil Nadu. Coastal regions of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal experienced temperatures generally near normal levels, the RMD noted in the daily bulletin.

TN Weather 8 Districts Sizzle

Eight districts recorded over 40.0°C. As per the weather monitoring agency, the highest maximum temperature was registered in Erode at 42.0°C (a rise of +4.5°C), followed by Vellore at 41.6°C (+2.7°C), Tirupattur at 41.4°C (+3.7°C), Salem at 41.1°C (+3.2°C), Karur Paramathi at 41.0°C (+3.5°C), Dharmapuri at 40.7°C (+3.5°C), Tiruttani at 40.6°C (+2.2°C), and Tiruchi at 40.5°C (+2.4°C).

The plains of Interior Tamil Nadu experienced temperatures ranging from 38-40°C. Coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal saw temperatures between 34°C to 37°C, while hilly regions ranged from 21°C to 30°C. Chennai reported normal to slightly above-normal maximum temperatures.

Nonetheless, some places might get respite from heat as rains are predicted in one or two places.

"Light rain is likely to occur at one or two places over Western Ghats districts, Kanyakumari and Tirunelveli districts of Tamilnadu. Dry weather is very likely to prevail over the rest of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area," the statement from the RMD said.

Dindigul, Theni, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Sivagangai, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Thenkasi, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari come under South Tamil Nadu category. Whereas Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Theni, Dindigul, Thenkasi and Virudhunagar districts are considered western ghats districts.

The RMD has warned of impending hot and uncomfortable weather in isolated pockets across Tamil Nadu over the next five days, attributing it to high temperatures and humid conditions.

It forecasts partly cloudy skies with maximum temperatures expected to range between 36-37°C and minimum temperatures likely to be around 26-27°C.
