Tamil Nadu Weather Update: Heavy Rains To Lash 13 Districts Today, Warns RMC
Heavy rains will lash 13 districts in Tamil Nadu on Friday, the Regional Meteorological Centre said in its daily bulletin.
Districts Which Are Predicted To Get Heavy Rains

Heavy rainfall is likely to occur in isolated areas of the Ghat regions in Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Theni, Dindigul, and Tirunelveli districts, as well as in the districts of Nilgiris, Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tenkasi, Kanyakumari, and Tirupattur.
The RMC also warned that strong surface winds, with speeds reaching 30-40 kmph, are likely to prevail over Tamil Nadu.
An offshore trough at mean sea level, which was positioned from south Gujarat to Kerala coasts yesterday, remains in place.
Chennai Weather
In Chennai, the sky is likely to be partly cloudy, with light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning expected in some areas. The maximum temperature is likely to be 32-33°C, and the minimum temperature around 27°C.
A low-pressure area over the central and adjoining north Bay of Bengal has moved west-northwestwards and is now located over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal, off the north Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha coasts. As of 0830 IST on August 30, 2024, it has intensified into a well-marked low-pressure area and is expected to further develop into a depression over the next 36 hours as it continues to move west-northwestwards, the RMC said.
Madurai Airport recorded the highest maximum temperature of 38.2°C on Thursday, while Erode experienced the lowest minimum temperature of 17.2°C.
On Thursday, Chinnakalar in Coimbatore district recorded 10 cm of rainfall, leading the region in precipitation. This was followed by 9 cm in Valparai PTO, Upasi TRF AWS, and Cincona, all within the Coimbatore district. Additionally, Valparai PTO, Upasi TRF AWS, and Cincona each recorded 7 cm of rainfall.
