Tamil Nadu Weather Update: Chennai Sees Light Rains As Storms Move East From Bengaluru

The thunderstorms that brought heavy rains to parts of Bengaluru have moved east towards the North Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Pradesh coast. However, these storms weakened significantly as they traveled.

In Chennai, some areas experienced light drizzle and rains early Tuesday morning from the remnants of these thunderstorms. The light rains are expected to clear soon.

As the Southwest Monsoon picks up along the West Coast, coastal Tamil Nadu may see a reduction in thunderstorms starting today, with another brief window for storms expected around Friday.

RMC Forecast

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has predicted thunderstorms and lightning at one or two places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.

For Chennai, the RMC forecasts partly cloudy skies. Light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, is likely in some areas during the evening and night. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 34°C, with the minimum temperature likely to be between 25-26°C.

The weather agency further said that the Madurai Airport recorded the highest maximum temperature of 39.7°C on Monday, July 8, 2024 (17 Asadha 1946), as reported at 12:30 pm whole Namakkal recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 19.5°C.
