Tamil Nadu Weather Update: Chennai On Red Alert As Heavy Rains To Lash 24 Dists
Chennai and several coastal districts are bracing for heavy rains over the next two days. The Regional Meteorological Centre has issued a Red Alert for Chengalpattu, Villuppuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Puducherry, and Karaikal.
An Orange Alert is in place for Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Ariyalur, Thanjavur, and Tiruvarur. Additionally, Yellow Alerts have been issued for Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Perambalur, Tiruchirappalli, Pudukkottai, Sivaganga, and Ramanathapuram. A total of 18 districts are likely to experience heavy rainfall on Friday.

Saturday Forecast:
Red Alert: Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Villuppuram, Kallakurichi, and Cuddalore.
Orange Alert: Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, and Karaikal.
Yellow Alert: Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Namakkal, Tiruchirappalli, Pudukkottai, and Karur.
A total of 24 districts are predicted to witness heavy rainfall on Saturday.
Yellow Alert: Moderate rainfall expected. Residents should remain cautious, especially in low-lying areas, and carry essentials like umbrellas.
Orange Alert: Heavy rainfall predicted. Stay indoors where possible, stock up on essentials, and prepare for possible disruptions.
Red Alert: Extremely heavy rainfall anticipated. Follow evacuation instructions, avoid unnecessary travel, and prioritize safety measures.

Weather blogger R Pradeep John has predicted that rains will commence soon in the KTCC (Chennai) to Pondy belt, with intensity picking up by evening and night. The cyclone is expected to bring very heavy rainfall to this region, particularly on Saturday, with a possibility of rain extending into Sunday. The blogger emphasized the need for extreme caution and vigilance, highlighting that this weather system could result in significant rainfall accumulation in these areas.
Citing recent examples, the blogger noted that even a small cloud produced 50-60 mm of rain last night, hinting at the potential intensity of the coming downpours.
