Tamil Nadu Weather Update: Chennai & 4 Other Districts Sizzle Above 40°C

Five districts in Tamil Nadu recorded over 40.0°C on Thursday with Turutani registering highest at 42.5°C.

Chennai (MBK) recorded a significantly above-normal maximum temperature at 41.9°C (+3.3°C), while Chennai (NBK) recorded an above-normal maximum temperature at 40.1°C (+2.2°C). It is followed by Madurai (40.2°C), Parangipettai (40.1°C) and Vellore (41.5°C), the data from the Regional Meteorological Centre states.

During the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 pm today, maximum temperatures were 2-3°C above normal in some areas of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, and generally near normal in the rest of Tamil Nadu and Karaikal.

Maximum temperatures ranged from 34-43°C in the plains of North Interior Tamil Nadu, 37-40°C in the plains of South Interior Tamil Nadu, 37-40°C in North Coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, and 32-38°C in South Coastal Tamil Nadu. The hilly areas recorded maximum temperatures between 22°C and 26°C.

The RMC in Chennai forecasts that the sky will likely be partly cloudy in the state capital. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 41°C, while the minimum temperature is predicted to be between 30-31°C.

The weather agency has predicted heavy rain over Nilgiris, Ghat areas of Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Theni, Dindigul, Erode, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri and Salem districts in the next few days.

Meanwhile, a scorching day is expected in many places. Temperatures have risen rapidly, surpassing 40°C by 11:00 am, a weather analyser said on X.

Tiruttani may exceed 43°C today, while Vellore is likely to surpass 42°C today.

Meanwhile, Tirupattur registered 4 cms rainfall on Thursday and Arakonam in the Vellore district received just 1 cms.
