Tamil Nadu Weather Update: Avalanche Receives 37 CMS, 9 Districts Hit By Double-Digit Downpour
Heavy rains lashed nine districts across Tamil Nadu on Monday, with Avalanche in The Nilgiris district recording the highest rainfall at 37 cm.
Other notable totals included Valparai PTO (Coimbatore district) and Upper Bhavani (The Nilgiris district) with 25 cm each, followed by Chinnakalar (Coimbatore district) at 23 cm, and Cincona (Coimbatore district) and Valparai PAP (Coimbatore district) at 17 cm each. Valparai Taluk Office (Coimbatore district) recorded 16 cm, Sholayar (Coimbatore district) 14 cm, and Emeralad (The Nilgiris district) 13 cm. Additionally, Vint Worth Estate, Gudalur Bazar, and Upper Gudalur in The Nilgiris district received 11 cm each, while Periyar (Theni district) and Oothu (Tirunelveli district) recorded 10 cm each, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre's daily bulletin.

"Today has been exceptional for the Ghats in Tamil Nadu, especially in the Avalanche region where monsoon winds have surged as anticipated. The inflows into dams in Coimbatore, Nilgiris, and Theni districts are significantly high. These rains are expected to persist for the next four days. The Cauvery catchment areas in Wayanad and Kodagu have also reported heavy rainfall, which is excellent news for farmers across the region," commented weather interpreter R Pradeep John (PJ).
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued a red alert for certain regions, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall, with chances of extremely heavy rain at isolated places.

Where all heavy rains are predicted?
Areas expected to receive heavy rainfall include Ghat areas of Coimbatore district, along with isolated heavy rain in Ghat areas of Tiruppur, Theni, Dindigul, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli districts, and Kanyakumari district over the next two days.
Meanwhile, in Chennai, the RMC forecasts generally cloudy skies with the likelihood of light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in some areas. Maximum temperatures are expected to hover around 32°C, with minimum temperatures ranging between 26-27°C.
