Tamil Nadu Weather Update: 9 Districts Sizzle Above 41°C, Light Rain Predicted For Chennai
Karur and Erode have continued to record maximum temperatures even as seven other districts registered over 41°C on Monday, according to the Regional Meteorological Department.
Over the 24-hour period, maximum temperatures across Tamil Nadu were notably elevated, with many places in the interior plains experiencing above-normal to significantly above-normal temperatures. Isolated pockets in the northern interior of Tamil Nadu saw markedly higher temperatures, while coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal reported normal to above-normal temperatures. Heatwave conditions persisted in a few pockets in the northern interior of Tamil Nadu, the RMD said in its daily bulletin.

The highest maximum temperature was recorded at Karur Paramathi: 43.8°C (+7.5°C), followed by Erode: 43.4°C (+5.9°C), Tirupattur: 42.2°C (+5.0°C), Vellore: 42.1°C (+3.1°C), Madurai_AP: 41.8°C (+4.2°C), Tiruchirappalli_AP: 41.7°C (+3.6°C), Tiruthani: 41.7°C (+1.8°C), Salem: 41.0°C (+3.8°C), and Palayamkottai: 41.0°C (+3.6°C).

Chennai reported normal maximum temperatures, with MBK recording 39.4°C (+1.8°C) and NBK recording 37.0°C (+0.6°C).
Heatwave Warning
RMD has issued a yellow alert for heatwaves, specifically targeting isolated pockets across Interior Tamil Nadu. Since April 19, several districts have been affected by heatwave.
However, the good news is that the weather-monitoring agency has predicted heavy rain over the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Salem and Tirupattur districts.
As far as the Chennai weather is concerned, the RMD said that the sky condition is likely to be partly cloudy. However, it has predicted light to moderate rain in some areas. "Maximum temperature is likely to be 38-39°C and Minimum temperature is likely to be 29-30°C," the statement added.
