Tamil Nadu Weather Update: 12 Districts Above 40°C; Check Chennai Forecast For CKS Vs LSG Match

Erode recorded the highest maximum temperature as a heatwave swept through several areas in North Tamil Nadu. The Regional Meteorological Department reported that 12 districts in Tamil Nadu recorded temperatures exceeding 40°C.

In the 24-hour period, maximum temperatures across Tamil Nadu generally exceeded normal levels by 2-4°C in many areas across the plains of interior Tamil Nadu. In isolated pockets of north interior Tamil Nadu (Erode & Dharmapuri districts), temperatures were significantly higher than usual. Heatwave conditions were observed in Erode district of north interior Tamil Nadu.

The highest maximum temperature was recorded in Erode: 43.0°C (+5.5°C), followed by Salem: 41.6°C (+3.7°C), Vellore: 41.5°C (+2.6°C), Dharmapuri: 41.2°C (+4.0°C), Karur Paramathi: 41.2°C (+3.7°C), Thirupathur: 40.8°C (+3.1°C), Tiruthani: 40.8°C (+2.4°C), Madurai AP: 40.7°C (+2.9°C), Thiruchirapalli: 40.3°C (+2.2°C), Madurai City: 40.2°C (+3.0°C), Coimbatore AP: 40°C (+3.7°C), and Namakkal: 40.0°C. Palayamkottai and Thanjavur recorded 39.1°C & 39.0°C, respectively.

Coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal experienced temperatures ranging from 35°C to 39°C, while hilly areas saw temperatures between 23°C to 29°C, generally above normal maximum temperatures. Chennai recorded normal maximum temperatures (MBK: 37.3°C (+1.0) & NBK: 35.7°C (+0.6°C)), the weather-monitoring agency said.

There's a chance of light rain in isolated areas of South Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, the RMD said, adding dry weather is expected to dominate North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal regions.

Chennaities are eagerly awaiting the battle between CSK and the LSG on Tuesday. The match will be played at the MA Chidambaram stadium.

According to RMD, the sky is expected to be partly cloudy. The maximum temperature is forecasted to reach around 37°C, while the minimum temperature is expected to be around 28°C.

Going by the weather report, the possibility of rains is ruled out, but the players will face challenging hot conditions.
