Tamil Nadu Weather Update: 11 Districts Boil Over 40.0°C, Rain Predicted For Relief
Eleven districts in Tamil Nadu recorded over 40.0°C on Monday with Erode remaining particularly hot, the Regional Meteorological Department said in a statement.
However, there were no significant fluctuations in maximum temperatures across Tamil Nadu, it noted.

In the plains of interior Tamil Nadu, temperatures remained consistently above normal, ranging from 2 to 4°C higher than usual in many areas. Coastal regions experienced temperatures ranging from normal to slightly above normal, with a variation of 1-3°C, while Puducherry and Karaikal areas saw temperatures close to normal.
The highest maximum temperature was recorded in Erode at 42.6°C, marking a rise of 4.2°C from the usual. Following closely were Tirupattur at 42.0°C (+4.2°C), Salem at 41.6°C (+3.9°C), Vellore at 41.5°C (+2.7°C), Karur Paramathi at 41.0°C (+3.9°C), Dharmapuri at 40.5°C (+3.4°C), Tiruchirappalli_AP at 40.3°C (+2.1°C), Madurai_AP at 40.2°C (+2.5°C), Tiruthani at 40.1°C (+1.2°C), Madurai City at 40.0°C (+2.8°C), and Thanjavur at 40.0°C.
In the plains of the remaining interior Tamil Nadu, temperatures ranged from 38 to 40°C. Coastal regions of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal experienced temperatures between 35°C and 38°C, while hilly areas saw temperatures ranging from 23°C to 31°C.
Chennai reported normal maximum temperatures, with MBK at 37.9°C (+1.2°C) and NBK at 36.2°C (+0.6°C).
According to RMD, Chennai's sky condition is expected to be partly cloudy. The maximum temperature is forecasted to range between 38°C and 39°C, while the minimum temperature is anticipated to be between 28°C and 29°C.
Rain To Bring Relief
The good news for some regions is that the RMD has predicted light to moderate rain in the next few days. "Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning is likely to occur at one or two places over Western Ghats and adjoining districts. Dry weather is very likely to prevail over the rest Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area," the statement from the news agency said.
Heat Wave Alert
Heatwave conditions are likely to prevail at isolated pockets over North Interior Tamil Nadu, the weather-monitoring agency said.
Tirupattur, Vellore, Ranipet, Kallakurichi, Tiruvannamalai, Kancheepuram, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Namakkal, Karur, Erode, Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Tiruchirapalli, Ariyalur and Perambalur districts come under north interior part of the state.
