Tamil Nadu Weather: RMC Issues Yellow, Red Alerts; Heavy Rains To Lash For Next 5 Days

Parts of Tamil Nadu will witness heavy rains for the next five days, according to the daily bulletin released by the Regional Meteorological Centre on Friday.

These Districts To Get Heavy Rains

As per the statement, Nilgiris and Ghat areas of Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Theni, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, and Kanyakumari districts are on yellow alert today and are expected to get heavy rains.

Weather blogger Tamil Nadu Weatherman, in a post on X, wrote: "Action starts early in Kanyakumari district. From tonight the rains will increase. Valparai, Nilgiris (Gudalur) belt will all join. Great days ahead for Dam catchment areas, Kerala, Cauvery Catchment, Siruvani catchment, Periyar Catchment, Parambikulam catchment, Kerala coast and ghats, Goa, Maharashtra coastal and Ghat areas, Mumbai all in for great days for next 10 days."

The Nilgiris and Ghat areas of Coimbatore districts are on yellow alert on Saturday while Theni, Dindigul, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari and Tiruppur districts are on red alert.

For Sunday and Monday, the weather agency has issued red alert for Nilgiris and Ghat areas of Coimbatore districts. Theni, Dindigul and Tenkasi districts are on orange alert while Tiruppur, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts are on yellow alert.

Nilgiris and Ghat areas of Coimbatore districts are predicted to get heavy rains on Tuesday. As far as Chennai is concerned, some areas might receive light rains for the next two days.

On Thursday, Thoothukudi recorded the highest maximum temperature of 38.4°C while Karur registered the lowest minimum temperature of 23.0°C in the plains.

Early Monsoon

Meanwhile, the conditions are also likely to become favourable for further advance of southwest Monsoon over some moreparts of South Arabian Sea, remaining parts of Maldives and Comorin area, some parts of Lakshadweep area, Kerala, some parts of Karnataka & Tamil Nadu, some more parts South and Central Bay of Bengal, North Bay of Bengal and some parts of Northeastern states during the same period, the RMC said.
