Tamil Nadu Weather: Rains Lash KTCC Region; 6 Dists On Orange Alert, 2 On Yellow Alert
Chennai and parts of the KTCC (Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur, Chennai, Chengalpattu) region are witnessing rains on Friday afternoon.
Tamil Nadu Rains
Chrompet, Ambattur, Ayappakkam, Anna Nagar, East Tambaram and many other areas received rains today. "Light thunderstorm and lightning with Moderate rain likely to occur Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram and Chengalpattu districts at isolated places during next two hours," the Regional Meteorological Centre said in a post on X.

The forecast for today indicates chances of thunderstorms with lightning, accompanied by light to moderate rain in some parts of Chennai.
Yesterday, a deep depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal near the West Bengal and Bangladesh coast made landfall between Sagar Island and Khepupara (Bangladesh), close to Raidighi (West Bengal). It weakened into a depression early this morning (May 30) over Bangladesh, and is expected to move north-northeast while continuing to weaken.

Over the past seven days, Avalanche in the Nilgiris district recorded a heavy 140 cm of rainfall. Upper Bhavani (Nilgiris) and Chinnakalar (Coimbatore) saw between 85-95 cm, while Emerald (Nilgiris) and Valparai PTO (Coimbatore) received around 60-70 cm. Areas like Pandalur, Worth Estate Cher in Nilgiris, Cincona, Sholayar, Siruvani Adivaram in Coimbatore, Oothu and Nalumukku in the hilly regions of Tirunelveli, and Periyar in Theni district all reported 50-60 cm of rain, the RMC data revealed.
Meanwhile, the weather office has issued an orange alert for Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli, Theni, Tenkasi, and Kanyakumari districts. Tiruppur and Dindigul districts are under a yellow alert today.

For Saturday, a yellow alert is in effect for Nilgiris, Theni, Tenkasi, Kanyakumari, as well as the ghat regions of Coimbatore and Tirunelveli districts.
How It Rained On Thursday?
On Thursday, Chinnakalar in Coimbatore recorded 13 cm of rain, followed by Nalumukku (Tirunelveli), Valparai PTO (Coimbatore), and Oothu (Tirunelveli) with 12 cm each. Avalanche (Nilgiris), Valparai PAP (Coimbatore), Upasi TRF AWS (Coimbatore), and Valparai Taluk Office (Coimbatore) received 11 cm each. Cincona (Coimbatore), Kakkachi (Tirunelveli), and Upper Bhavani (Nilgiris) saw 10 cm each, while Sholayar (Coimbatore) measured 9 cm.

Tondi recorded the highest maximum temperature in Tamil Nadu at 39.2°C. Karur Paramathi registered the lowest minimum temperature in the plains at 22.0°C.
