Tamil Nadu Weather: Karur Hottest At 36.5°C, Chennai Records 32.2°C As Temperatures Rise
Six districts in Tamil Nadu have recorded soaring temperatures, exceeding 35°C in the last 24 hours, as per the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai. With temperatures already touching extreme levels in February, officials warn that several districts may cross 40°C during peak summer, similar to last year.
Hottest Districts in Tamil Nadu

Karur registered the highest temperature at 36.5°C, followed by:
- Erode: 36.0°C
- Vellore: 35.2°C
- Salem: 35.7°C
- Madurai (AP): 35.0°C
- Coimbatore: 35.4°C
Meanwhile, Chennai recorded a relatively lower temperature of 32.2°C.
Temperature Trends and Forecast
The RMC stated that there has been no significant change in temperatures over the past 24 hours, except for a slight rising trend in maximum temperatures. It noted that maximum temperatures were 2-3°C above normal in isolated pockets, while other regions recorded near-normal temperatures.
Currently, maximum temperatures range between 32-37°C in interior districts and 30-36°C in coastal areas across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.
Weather Forecast for the Coming Days
The RMC has forecasted that:
- From February 20 to February 22, maximum temperatures are likely to be 2-3°C above normal in isolated pockets.
- From February 23 to February 24, temperatures could rise further, being 2-4°C above normal in some areas.
Light to moderate Easterlies/Northeasterlies are prevailing over the region in the lower tropospheric levels, influencing temperature patterns.
With the summer season approaching, Tamil Nadu residents may need to brace for even hotter days ahead, with several districts potentially crossing the 40°C mark as the months progress.
