Heavy Rains Forecast For Today

For the next two days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for Thoothukudi district. However, the unseasonal downpour has disrupted salt production in Thoothukudi, which had just resumed after a pause, according to a report in ANI.

As per the weather agency, light thunderstorms, lightning, and moderate rainfall are expected in districts such as Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Ramanathapuram, Tenkasi, Virudhunagar, Theni, Madurai, Erode, Salem, and Namakkal.

Fishermen are advised to avoid venturing into affected areas due to squally weather with wind speeds of 35-45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph, expected along the south Kerala coast, Lakshadweep, Maldives, Gulf of Mannar, Tamil Nadu coast, and Sri Lanka coast.

Meanwhile, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are likely to experience thunderstorms today, while Assam and Meghalaya will see similar conditions from March 12 to 15. Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are also expected to face thunderstorms from March 12 to 16.

In New Delhi, the IMD predicts a partly cloudy sky with morning mist and strong surface winds throughout the day. Temperatures are expected to range between 16-18°C (minimum) and 32-34°C (maximum). Wind speeds will vary, starting at 12-14 kmph from the northwest in the morning, increasing to 16-18 kmph in the afternoon, and dropping below 10 kmph by evening and night.
