Tamil Nadu Weather Get Ready For Record-Breaking Rains in August

"How often do we see this in August? It is very rare indeed for a low-pressure system to form off the Tamil Nadu coast during early August. A special August we are going to have in 2025. Expect it to be a record-breaking one for Tamil Nadu," the blogger wrote.

He further added that the rains would benefit interior districts the most, stating, "This is going to be one of the best Augusts for many districts."

Backing this up, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued a yellow alert for several districts between August 2 and August 6, warning of heavy rainfall at isolated places.

Yellow Alert Rainfall Forecast:

August 2: Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Pudukkottai, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Puducherry, and Karaikal

August 3: Above districts plus Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu

August 4: Also includes Ariyalur, Perambalur, and Kallakurichi

August 5: Adds Tiruchirappalli to the watchlist

August 6: Tiruvannamalai joins the list of districts likely to receive heavy rainfall

July Rainfall: Mixed Performance

Despite the optimistic forecast for August, Tamil Nadu ended July with a slight seasonal rainfall deficit. From June 1 to July 30, 2025, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry received 104.6 mm of rainfall against the normal of 117.7 mm.

However, there were encouraging signs during the week of July 17 to 23, when the state received 21.6 mm of rainfall - an excess of 28% compared to the normal of 16.8 mm.

District-Wise Rainfall Classification (July 17-23):

11 districts received "Large Excess" rainfall

8 districts recorded "Excess" rainfall

2 districts had "Normal" rainfall

3 districts recorded "Deficient" rainfall

16 districts were classified under "Largely Deficient"

The forecast for the end of July indicated slightly above-normal rains in Western Ghats regions, while the rest of the state was expected to experience slightly below-normal showers.

With a promising outlook for August and weather systems developing early, Tamil Nadu's hopes for rain revival - especially in water-starved interiors - appear to be on track.
