Tamil Nadu Weather Alert: Will It Rain This Weekend In Chennai & Across The State?
Chennai will get light to moderate rain over the weekend while a few places in Tamil Nadu are predicted to get heavy rains.
In its daily bulletin, the Regional Meteorological Centre has forecasts partly cloudy skies with a likelihood of light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in some areas during the evening or night in Chennai. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 36°C, while the minimum temperature will range between 27-28°C.

It has issued a yellow alert to a few places in the state over the weekend.
"Light to moderate rain with thunderstorm and lightning is likely to occur at one or two places over Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area," the statement read.
The RMC reports that during the 24-hour period ending at 08:30 IST on June 14, 2024, maximum temperatures were generally near normal to above normal or below normal at isolated locations across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal areas. The highest maximum temperature was recorded at Madurai Airport at 38.2°C.
The maximum temperatures were as follows:
- 33-37°C over the plains of North Interior Tamil Nadu
- 37-38°C over the plains of South Interior Tamil Nadu
- 34-36°C over North Coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal
- 31-36°C over South Coastal Tamil Nadu
- 21-26°C over the hilly areas
In Chennai, the maximum temperature was below normal, with MBK recording 35.6°C (-1.7°C) and NBK recording 35.0°C (-2.0°C).
Last week, over 20 districts used to get heavy rains. But now, the rains have disappeared in most parts of the state.
On Thursday, the highest rainfall recorded was 2 cm in several locations, including Cheyyar (Tiruvannamalai district), Thirukalukundram (Chengalpattu district), Mahabalipuram (Chengalpattu district), Arani (Tiruvannamalai district), and Hosur AWS (Krishnagiri district), the RMC data shows.
