Tamil Nadu Weather Alert: Relief From Heat As Rains Lash Several Districts

Tamil Nadu received a welcome relief from the heat with the rains lashing several districts. Showers graced multiple districts, including Kanyakumari, Madurai, Pudukottai, Virudhunagar, Trichy, and Perambalur on Friday.

The rains are expected to continue for a few more days. Weather blogger R Pradeep John has already predicted rains for 4-5 days in Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Nellai, Kanyakumari, Thenkasi, Virudhunagar, Theni, Kodaikanal, Valparai, Nilgiris, Madurai, Sivagangai and Pudukottai.

Rains Lash Several Districts In TN

The Regional Meteorological Department has predicted rains to lash in a few places today. "Light to Moderate rain with thunderstorm and lighting is likely to occur at one or two places over South Tamilnadu, Delta districts, Western Ghats districts of North Tamilnadu and Karaikal area," the weather-monitoring agency said in its latest bulletin.

However, dry weather is very likely to prevail over the rest Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

In the latest weather report for Tamil Nadu, notable temperature fluctuations have been witnessed across different regions. While certain areas in north Tamil Nadu and Karaikal experienced temperatures 2-3°C above normal, the southern parts of the state saw temperatures remaining close to the expected range. Erode registered the highest maximum temperature at 40.0°C, marking a deviation of +2.4°C from the norm, closely followed by Tirupattur at 39.8°C with a deviation of +2.7°C.

Coastal regions, both in the north and south of Tamil Nadu, recorded temperatures ranging between 31°C to 36°C, while the hilly terrains maintained a cooler range between 20°C to 30°C. In contrast, Chennai reported normal maximum temperatures, with Meenambakkam at 35.6°C and Nungambakkam at 34.7°C, indicating relatively stable weather conditions in the capital city.

Over the next five days, there will be a gradual increase in maximum temperatures by 2-3°C. The relative humidity levels from April 13 to 17 are expected to range between 30-50 per cent in the afternoon hours and 40-70 per cent during other times over the plains of interior districts. Coastal areas are likely to experience higher humidity, ranging from 50-80 per cent during the same period.

As far as the Chennai weather is concerned, the RMD noted: "Sky condition is likely to be partly cloudy. Maximum temperature is likely to be 35-36°C and Minimum temperature is likely to be around 28°C."
