Tamil Nadu Weather Alert: Expect Heavy Rains; Avoid Going To Ooty, Munnar, Wayanad
Several districts in Tamil Nadu are expected to get heavy rains over the weekend, the Regional Meteorological Department said in statement.
It has issued an orange alert for Saturday over Nilgiris district and Ghat areas of Coimbatore district. An orange alert indicates extremely adverse weather conditions affecting transportation by rail, road, and air.

The weather agency has also issued a yellow alert to several other districts, indicating expected rainfall ranging between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm, signaling a deterioration in current adverse weather conditions on Sunday.
"Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Kanyakumari district; Ghat areas of Tiruppur, Dindigul, Theni, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli districts," the statement read.
The RMC forecasts that Chennai's sky will be partly cloudy. Light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, is expected in some areas during the evening and night. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 36°C, while the minimum temperature is expected to be between 25-26°C.
Thunderstorms are occurring over Ranipet and Vellore districts. With strong westerly winds, they might reach the coast south of Chennai, a weather blogger with the 'Chennai Rains' said and asked people to keep an eye on the storms further west between Bengaluru and Vellore, as they may bring rains to Chennai later in the night on Friday.
Planning To Go To Hill Stations?
Another blogger (Tamil Nadu Weatherman), said that the monsoon will pick up in Kerala and Karnataka and also ghat areas of Nilgiris, Valparai, Kanyakumari areas. "Heavy rainfall possible in these places," he wrote in a post on Facebook.
