Tamil Nadu Weather Alert:10 Dists Today, 12 Tomorrow To Get Heavy Rains; Chennai To Receive Light Showers

Tamil Nadu Rains: The Regional Meteorological Centre has forecast heavy rainfall across several parts of Tamil Nadu for the next four days, issuing yellow alerts for multiple districts. The weather bulletin released on Wednesday warns of intense showers, particularly in the western and southern regions of the state.

Tamil Nadu Weather: Districts on Alert

Wednesday: A yellow alert is in effect for 10 districts, including Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Sivagangai, and Tenkasi.

Thursday: The alert expands to 12 districts, adding Kanyakumari and Tirunelveli to the previously listed ones.

Friday: Heavy rains are expected in Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode, Salem, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, and Kanyakumari.

Saturday: Nine districts, including Nilgiris, ghat areas of Coimbatore, Erode, Theni, Dindigul, Tenkasi, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, and Salem, remain under yellow alert.

Weather Forecast for Chennai

Chennai is expected to receive light rainfall on Wednesday, with temperatures ranging between 34-35°C during the day and 26-27°C at night over the next two days.

Rainfall and Temperature Trends

According to the weather agency, rainfall has been recorded in isolated areas, particularly in South Tamil Nadu and the Western Ghats of North Interior Tamil Nadu. However, dry conditions have prevailed over the rest of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.

Temperature Update:

Maximum temperatures have dropped by 1-3°C in certain regions of Tamil Nadu, while remaining largely stable elsewhere.

Interior Tamil Nadu recorded temperatures ranging from 34-37°C, while coastal regions, including Puducherry and Karaikal, saw temperatures between 32-35°C. Hilly areas experienced significantly cooler temperatures, between 21-29°C.

Erode registered the highest maximum temperature of 37.2°C, while Karur Paramathi recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 21.0°C in the plains.

At 7 cms, Watrap in Virudhunagar recorded the highest rains on Tuesday. It is followed by PWD Makkinampatti (dist Coimbatore), Sothuparai (dist Theni) 4 each, Pollachi (dist Coimbatore), Eraniel (dist Kanyakumari) 3 each, and Siruvani Adivaram (dist Coimbatore), Chittar (dist Kanyakumari), Sivalogam (chittar II) (dist Kanyakumari), Periyakulam (dist Theni) 2 each, the weather agency said.
