Tamil Nadu Weather: 12 Dists Today, 17 Tomorrow To Get Heavy Rains; Expect Sudden Showers In Chennai

Prepare for a wet week ahead as the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued a heavy rainfall warning for large parts of Tamil Nadu over the next five days. The forecast indicates that numerous districts will experience significant downpours, with temperatures expected to drop as the week progresses.

Five-Day Heavy Rain Alert

The RMC has identified several districts that are likely to receive heavy rainfall on specific days:

Tuesday (Today): A heavy rain warning is in effect for 16 districts, including the Ghat areas of Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Theni, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Pudukkottai, Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore, Villuppuram, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, and Erode.

Wednesday: Heavy rains are expected to hit 12 districts, including the Ghat areas of Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Dindigul, Theni, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, and Kanyakumari.

Thursday: The warning expands to 17 districts, including the Ghat areas of Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Dindigul, Theni, Tenkasi, Madurai, Sivaganga, Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, and Cuddalore.

Friday: Heavy rainfall is predicted for 13 districts, namely Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, and Mayiladuthurai.

Saturday: The forecast calls for heavy rain in 14 districts, including Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode, Dindigul, Theni, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, and Kanyakumari.

Temperature Tendency
Maximum temperatures are expected to remain near normal for Tuesday and Wednesday. However, from Thursday through Saturday, a gradual fall of 2-3°C is anticipated in a few pockets, bringing temperatures to below-normal levels for this time of year.

Chennai City Forecast

For the next two days, Chennai is likely to experience one or two spells of light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in some areas.

Maximum Temperature: Expected to be around 32°C on both Tuesday and Wednesday.

Minimum Temperature: Will likely remain between 26-27°C.

According to a weather blogger R Pradeep John, residents in coastal districts from Thoothukudi to Chennai are advised to carry an umbrella or raincoat starting today, as sudden, intense showers are expected to increase, peaking between October 15th and 18th.

Monday's Rainfall Review

The wet weather has already begun, with several areas receiving significant rainfall on Monday. The highest was recorded at RSCL-3 Semmedu in Villupuram district with 11 cm. Other notable rainfall figures include 7 cm each in Kallakurichi and Thalaivasal (Salem), and 6 cm each in Kodaikanal Boat Club, Elumalai (Madurai), Thekkadi (Theni), Varattupallam (Erode), and Viluppuram.
