Tamil Nadu School Holidays In October: Educational Institutions Likely To Remain Shut For 14 Days

It looks like October is going to be one of the most cheerful months for school students in Tamil Nadu. After wrapping up their quarterly exams, children are already enjoying their well-deserved break. But here's the fun twist-October is loaded with holidays, making it a month of relaxation, festivals, and maybe a little extra screen time and outings!

Students are set to get at least 12 days off this month, and if things go their way, the number could even stretch to 14 holidays. Yes, you read that right-almost half the month at home!

Here's how it worked out. The quarterly exam holidays happened to overlap with Ayudha Pooja and Gandhi Jayanthi this year, so students technically missed out on those festival breaks. However, once schools reopen on October 6, the holiday count doesn't exactly stop there. October started with a neat set of five days off, and when you add in the six weekend holidays that fall through the month (excluding October 4 and 5), the numbers start stacking up pretty quickly.

And the big one-Diwali falls on October 20 (Monday), giving students yet another reason to celebrate. With this, the official tally of holidays for October stands at 12. But here's the exciting part-traditionally, the Tamil Nadu government tends to announce additional Diwali holidays, either the day before or after the festival. So there's a good chance the break could stretch to 14 days in total, making October feel like a mini-summer vacation.

That said, parents of children studying in private CBSE, ICSE, or international schools might want to keep an eye on their school calendars. Unlike state-board schools, many of these institutions run on tighter schedules and sometimes even hold classes on Saturdays.

Still, for lakhs of school kids across Tamil Nadu, October is shaping up to be a month filled with fun, festivals, and lots of free time-just the kind of break they were hoping for after the exam season.
