The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has sounded a fresh weather warning as Tamil Nadu braces for another spell of intense rainfall on Monday. According to the latest bulletin, 16 districts are set to receive heavy to very heavy showers, prompting authorities and residents to stay on alert.

Heavy Rains Alert

An orange alert has been issued for Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chennai, Chengalpattu, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, and Tiruvarur districts, along with the Karaikal region. The RMC warned that these areas may witness isolated heavy to very heavy rain, potentially disrupting daily routines.

Meanwhile, Villuppuram, Cuddalore, Ariyalur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, and Puducherry are under a yellow alert, cautioning residents of moderate but significant rainfall.

The showers intensified on Sunday night, causing inundation in several low-lying areas of Chennai. Over the past month, the city has repeatedly faced waterlogging, making it difficult for commuters and prompting precautionary measures from local authorities.

However, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi and Theni districts are expected to get heavy rains on Tuesday.

Holiday For Chennai and Other Tamil Nadu Schools On November 18?

As the rain threat grows, anxious parents and students have been waiting to know if schools will function on November 18. In view of the rains today, the schools in Chennai, Chengalpattu, and Tiruvallur have been declared a holiday.

In the last two months, schools in Chennai and nearby districts had been forced to shut for multiple days because of continuous downpours.

For now, government authorities have not issued a final order regarding school closures for Tuesday, November 18. With the possibility of more heavy rain in eight districts, officials are expected to make an announcement later in the evening or night.

Until then, schools remain scheduled to stay open - but a holiday is likely if conditions worsen.
