Cyclone Fengal has started making landfall in the Tamil Nadu coast on Saturday. "The latest observations indicate that the forward sector of spiral bands associated with the cyclone has entered into the land. It is likely to move west-southwestwards and cross north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram close to Puducherry as a cyclonic storm with a wind speed of 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph during next 3 to 4 hours," the Indian Meteorological Department said in its latest post.

However, weather blogger Pradeep John, also known as the "Tamil Nadu Weatherman," predicts that heavy rainfall and strong winds will lash the northern coast as the cyclone moves closer. He noted that cloud formations over the sea are creating sudden downpours along the coastal areas.

"Next band of clouds is developing rain should start in KTCC (Chennai) again. As long as cyclone is in sea, it will create clouds suddenly and push them towards land.

Note Landfall might not happen today and will be pushed to tomorrow," weather blogger R Pradeep John.

Cyclone Fengal has finally taken shape and is anticipated to make landfall between Mahabalipuram near Chennai and Karaikal in Puducherry. The storm is expected to bring intense rainfall and strong winds, affecting the entire northern coast of Tamil Nadu.

According to the predictive animation from the Zoom Earth app, the cyclone is likely to make landfall around 5 AM on Sunday morning. Residents in the affected areas have been advised to brace for heavy weather conditions as the storm advances towards the coast.

The Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai has issued alerts for multiple districts:

Red Alert: Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Kallakurichi, and Puducherry.
Orange Alert: Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, and Karaikal.
Yellow Alert: Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Namakkal, Tiruchirapalli, Pudukkottai, and Karur.

Airport Closure and Transport Arrangements
With Cyclone Fengal's delayed progress, Chennai Airport's closure has been extended until 4 AM on Sunday. To assist passengers, the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation has introduced special buses operating via GST Road to facilitate travel to and from the airport.

In a tragic incident, Chandan, a guest worker from Odisha, was electrocuted on Saturday in Muthialpet, Chennai. He came into contact with a snapped live cable while heading to an ATM. Chandan, employed at a private showroom in Parrys, lived nearby in accommodation provided by his employer.
