Tamil Nadu Rains Update: Rains Subside, Dry Weather Back

After a week of good rains, most districts experienced dry weather on Saturday.

Kuzhithurai in Kanniyakumari district recorded the highest rainfall with 5 cm, followed by Villivakkam ARG in Tiruvallur district with 3 cm. Chennai saw 2 cm each in Zone 06 Kulathur, Zone 06 TVK Nagar, and Zone 08 Malar Colony, according to the daily data released by the Regional Meteorological Centre.

For the past week, the state enjoyed significant rainfall, providing relief from the heatwave, with many districts receiving over 10 cm of rain. However, summer conditions have returned to the state.

During the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 today, maximum temperatures were generally below normal in most places across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. The highest maximum temperature was recorded at Chennai Airport at 38.0°C. Maximum temperatures ranged from 29-38°C in North Interior Tamil Nadu and 32-35°C in South Interior Tamil Nadu. Coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal recorded temperatures between 29°C and 34°C, while hilly areas had temperatures between 17°C and 24°C. Chennai recorded normal maximum temperatures with Meenambakkam at 38.0°C (-0.9°C) and Nungambakkam at 37.0°C (-1.0°C).

Despite this, a few places may still receive moderate rains with thunderstorms and lightning in isolated areas.

For Chennai, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) predicts partly cloudy skies with maximum temperatures likely between 38-39°C and minimum temperatures between 29-30°C.
