Tamil Nadu Rains: Schools Holiday Declared In 22 Districts Including Chennai
In view of heavy rains forecasted in the state, several districts in Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, have declared a holiday for schools on Thursday. This decision has been made by various district collectors, such as Tirunelveli Collector K.P. Karthikeyan, who announced a holiday for classes I to V. Other districts where schools will be shut include Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Ramanathapuram, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Pudukottai, and Ariyalur.

In Tiruvannamalai, both schools and colleges will be closed, while in Karur, Vellore, Ranipet, Tirupatur, and Thoothukudi districts, only schools will be shut. Thiruvalluvar University in Vellore has postponed exams due to the heavy rain forecast.
In Chennai, schools alone will be shut due to the heavy rain warning, announced by the district collector. Similarly, Ramanathapuram district collector Simranjeet Singh Kahlon has also announced a holiday for schools. Holidays have also been declared for schools only in Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Pudukottai, and Ariyalur districts.
According to reports, some areas have already experienced significant rainfall, with Karaikal receiving 8 cm, and Adiramapattinam, Vriddhachalam, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Cuddalore, Poonamallee, Red Hills in Chennai, and Nungambakkam in Chennai all receiving between 5-7 cm of rain.
Meanwhile, Half Yearly exams scheduled today (December 12) has been postponed to a later date in Districts where a holiday has been declared due to rain forecast.
The heavy rainfall has disrupted normal life in several parts of the state, with authorities urging residents to exercise caution and stay indoors whenever possible.
