Tamil Nadu Rain: 10 Dead In Tirunelveli, Tuticorin Districts; Govt. Shuts Schools, Colleges
Ten people lost their lives in Tamil Nadu due to heavy rains in the last two days, said reports. Briefing the media, Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary Shiv Das Meena said heavy downpours lashed in several parts of southern districts of the state and disrupted normal life.
"Ten people have died in Tirunelveli and Tuticorin districts due to rain. While some lost their lives due to wall collapse, some died due to electrocution," said Meena.

Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary also expressed his disappointment towards the India Meteorological Department (IMD) stating the weather monitoring agency had predicted heavy rains, but they were wrong as the state received extremely heavy rains for the last two days. He added that Tirunelveli and Tuticorin districts witnessed a record rainfall which resulted in floods in several areas.
Tirunelveli District Collector KP Karthikeyan also shared details of the situation in his region after continuous rain. The district collector said the district is flooded, and the "Total casualties are ten" for now.
Taking cognizance of the situation, Chief Minister MK Stalin said he will write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to seek permission to declare the havoc as a national calamity. He has also asked for funds relief funds to provide immediate financial aid to the people who were affected.
"As an immediate relief, I will ask for funds from the National Disaster Fund. Tamil Nadu has faced two disasters continuously, and I will urge the PM to release the funds at the earliest," said CM MK Stalin adding that CM added rain never caused such damages in the last 100 years.
The authorities have also ordered to keep schools and colleges closed in the affected districts till the situation gets normal.
