TN polls 2016: DMK gives DMDK rebels tickets in their own seats

Chennai, April 14: Three rebel leaders of Vijaykanth's DMDK which has joined the People's Welfare Front (PWF) for the May 16 Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, have been given tickets by the DMK in their home constituencies.

The three rebels---Chandrakumar, Parthiban and Sekar joined the DMK-fold after they were expelled from the DMDK for expressing discontent over the latter's decision to join the PWF. [DMK releases candidates' list]

They floated a breakaway group named MDMDK, which on Tuesday confirmed that it has been allotted three seats after a meeting with DMK supremo and former chief minister M Karunanidhi. [Will PWF's three 'V's make any impact in the polls?]

Chandrakumar, the sitting MLA from Erode East, will contest from the same seat this time. Parthiban and Sekar will seek re-election from Mettur and Gummidipoondi seats, respectively. [Top contests of 2016]

Vijaykanth aligned with the PWF comprising MDMK, VCK and two Left parties last month after having prolonged talks with the DMK. The Tamil Maanila Congress of GK Vasan, a former Congress minister at the Union, also joined the alliance last week.
