Tamil Nadu: K Annamalai Alleges Police, DMK Leaders Hiding Things In Anna University Sexual Assault Case

Following the Madras High Court's decision to sentence Gnanasekaran to 30 years of rigorous imprisonment in the Anna University sexual assault case, former BJP state president K Annamalai has made serious allegations. He claims that there is a larger cover-up involving senior police officers and a DMK minister.

Annamalai released a 15-minute video on social media demanding answers from the DMK government. He described what he believes to be "possible destruction of evidence" and "a perfect sketch" designed to protect influential figures. He questioned why call records from Gnanasekaran's phone suggest post-crime communication with police officers and party members.

Allegations of Evidence Destruction

According to Annamalai, Gnanasekaran's first call after switching off airplane mode at 8:53 pm on December 23 was to a police inspector. Annamalai asked why this contact was made immediately after the crime, promising to reveal the officer's identity within 48 hours if the government did not respond.

The BJP leader further alleged that on December 24, Gnanasekaran made six calls to Kottur Shanmugam, a senior DMK functionary, between 7:27 am and 4:01 pm. This occurred hours before his detention and alleged release by the Kotturpuram Police. Annamalai questioned why Gnanasekaran was let go and whether it was an attempt to destroy video and phone evidence.

Connections with Political Figures

Annamalai claimed that after Gnanasekaran's release, Shanmugam called Tamil Nadu Minister for Health Ma Subramanian at 8:32 pm. He also highlighted 13 phone conversations between Shanmugam and a university gate authority named Natarajan from December 23 to 25. Annamalai questioned the purpose of these calls and why they were not investigated.

He pointed out that one of the charges filed by the SIT includes destruction of evidence. Annamalai asked what evidence had been tampered with, emphasizing that December 24 night was crucial as Gnanasekaran was released and rearrested on the same day.

Concerns Over Police Conduct

Annamalai accused police officers of discouraging the survivor from filing an FIR by allegedly telling her it would "ruin her life." He claimed there was a delay in registering the case by an entire day. Expressing solidarity with the victim, he stated, "I hit myself with a whip, considering myself her brother."

Public Prosecutor Mary Jeyanthi clarified that the verdict was based on strong evidence, asserting that Gnanasekaran was the sole accused. She emphasized that forensic analysis confirmed his phone had been in flight mode during the crime. Jeyanthi urged against speculation, stating all evidence pointed to one man.

"There is no other accused," she said. "All evidence - witness statements, documents, scientific proof - point to one man. Any claim to the contrary is contempt of court," she added.
