Tamil Nadu Is No.1 In e-vehicles Production, 4.14 Lakh Vehicles Manufactured In Just 9 Months

Tamil Nadu is in number one position in e-vehicles production in India. The data is according to the report published by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. In just 2 years of DMK regime, Tamil Nadu has been ranked first in around 15 sectors including leather product exports, textile exports, electronic goods exports etc. This data is according to statistics released by the Union government.

As a continuation of being in the top, as per the recent announcement of the union government, Tamil Nadu is in no.1 position in e-vehicles production also. Out of the 10 lakh e-vehicles sold in India, 4 lakh e-vehicles were produced in Tamil Nadu. This shows the significant contribution of Tamil Nadu in the Indian electric vehicle market.

According to the union government's report, the sold e-vehicles range from 2-wheelers to 4-wheelers which are manufactured by 10 reputed companies in Tamil Nadu. Companies in Tamil Nadu manufactured 40% of the total 10.4 lakh registered vehicles between January 1 and September 20, 2023. According to the data from the Commissionerate of Transport and Road Safety, Tamil Nadu's contribution of 40% amounts to 4.14 lakh e-vehicles.

According to the officials, this is a milestone achievement for Tamil Nadu owing to its involvement in extensive production of e-vehicles compared to other states. Tamil Nadu is among the top 10 global automobile hubs and the government is working tirelessly to achieve the target of global capital for e-vehicle manufacturing.

Industries Minister TRB Rajaa's comments:

Tamil Nadu's achievement is the consequence of the good governance of CM Stalin. CM Stalin's regime gives equal importance to all sectors in order to excel in them all. In India, Tamil Nadu is considered as the automobile capital, due to its output value (production value) of 5.37 billion USD.

Similarly, Tamil Nadu is ranked first in electronics export and now in e-vehicles manufacturing as well. In order to sustain the position, CM Stalin has taken calculated measures to bring in new institutions and initiatives in the EV (Electronic-Vehicle) sector. "Further details will be announced in the Global Investors' Meet to be held in January 2024. Finally, the special feature of Stalin's government is equal, balanced and multi-sector development as opposed to concentrated single sector development", said the Industries Minister.

Reasons for the achievement:

The main reasons for Tamil Nadu's achievement in e-vehicles manufacturing are exceptional industrial facilities and excellent government co-operation. Also, simplified government accessibility, good economy and import export facilities made the achievement possible.

Additionally, a new policy has been announced by the government to make the major cities like Chennai, Coimbatore, Trichy, Madurai and Salem conducive for the usage of e-vehicles. In this line, the government has decided to provide additional benefits to customers who purchase e-vehicles, special tax benefits to the e-vehicle manufacturing companies, rewards and subsidies etc.

By the end of 2025, Tamil Nadu has set the target of reaching 50,000 crores investment in the e-vehicles sector and also the government has decided to produce approximately 30% of the country's e-vehicles by 2030. In Tamil Nadu, e-vehicle manufacturing companies are operating more in Chennai and Hosur areas. The major companies that have set production units in Tamil Nadu include Ola, Ather Energy, Hyundai, Simple One, TVS, Citroen, BMW etc. It is because of all these reasons, Tamil Nadu has reached the top position in e-vehicles manufacturing.
