Tamil Nadu Elections: Rs 314 Crore Worth Of Cash, Liquor, Narcotics Seized, So Far

Cash, liquor, narcotics, precious metals and freebies worth Rs 314 crores have been seized in Tamil Nadu till 9 am today since the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct for Lok Sabha elections.

According to the Election Commission, the seizures include over Rs 151 crore in cash and more than Rs 122 crore worth of precious metals. Additionally, authorities have seized liquor worth over Rs 52 lakh and freebies worth over Rs 34 lakh.

The voting for the 39 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu will be held on April 19.

As per a report in ANI, the Election Flying Squad officials seized Rs 1 crore in cash from a house at Ettarai village in Tiruchirappalli on Friday night.

Speaking to ANI over phone, District Collector Pradeep Kumar said, "The Election Flying Squad officers entered the house at Ettarai village in Tiruchirappalli and conducted a search. They found currency notes, totalling ₹ 1 crore, stuffed in a bag."

Recently, A team of the Flying squad seized Rs 4 crore from three persons who were suspected to be BJP workers and BJP's Tirunelveli candidate was detained for interrogation.

On April 6, an election flying squad team (FST) seized Rs 3.54 crore worth gold and diamond ornaments from a minivan at Singanallur in Coimbatore. Preliminary investigations indicated that Ambe Xpress Logistics Limited was involved in the domestic transportation of jewellery throughout India. On the said date, employees of the logistics company were transporting diamond-embedded jewellery gathered from various manufacturers in Coimbatore city.
