Tamil Nadu Elections 2026 Date: When Will The State Vote?

The stage for the Tamil Nadu elections is prepping up as the parties have started wooing the public while attacking the rival parties.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, who is losing no opportunity to retain power, credited Rs 5000 to 1.31 crore Tamil Nadu women sounded poll bugle by Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam scheme. Instead of promising people, the DMK government just credited the money.

The surprising part of the story is that Rs 3000 was credited as an advance for the months of February, March and April, along with Rs 2,000 as a "summer special package". taking the total amount to Rs 5,000.

The principal Opposition AIADMK and new entrant Vijay's TVK have mocked the DMK for crediting the money, fearing a defeat in the upcoming elections.

On the other hand, the Opposition parties in the NDA including the Dravidian major AIADMK is sealing alliances one after the other to ensure that it has an edge over the ruling part in a state election where caste metrics play a key factor in the final outcome.

Amid all these drama, people are eagerly looking forward for the Election Commission's announcement on polling and counting dates.

Interestingly, the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections in 2021 were held on April 6, 2021. The Polling date announcement came on February 26, 2021.

Political observers feel that the polls might be held during the Tamil New Year time, this year.

The ideal date, as per observers, for voting is likely to be on April 11, 13 or 16. This is the time around people, who stay outside the state, will come home for the festival. It will result in at higher voting percentage.

In that case, the EC might notify the date after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit on March 1. It is believed that the key dates might be announced in the second week of March.

Apart from Tamil Nadu, four other states such as Assam, Kerala, West Bengal along with union territory Puducherry will go for polls.
