Tamil Nadu: DMK Leader Alleges Annamalai Conspired Hooch Tragedy

Making a big statement, DMK Organisational Secretary RS Bharathi on Sunday made a big allegation against BJP Tamil Nadu chief Annamalai and held him responsible for the recently happened deaths in Kallakurichi hooch. Calling the tragic incident a "planned conspiracy by Annamalai", the DMK leader said the illicit liquor was sourced from Puducherry.

According to the reports, over 50 people in Tamil Nadu's Kallakurichi district died after consuming spurious liquor earlier this week.

K Annamalai

The DMK's statement came in response to BJP's protest and demand for Chief Minister MK Stalin's resignation over the deaths. Annamalai had criticised MK Stalin, suggesting that the Chief Minister should introspect on whether he should sit in the chair after what had happened.

"If anyone needs to resign, it's their (BJP) ministers and the Chief Minister of Puducherry. The police are telling us that the raw materials came from there. The BJP is liable. They have done it. I'm calling this a planned conspiracy by Annamalai. This is related to the Vikravandi election. I have doubts if it was done before the elections," the DMK leader said.

"Had the Railway Minister resigned after the Darjeeling train accident? Did the Union Minister resign due to the conspiracies that have hit NEET? Did Narendra Modi resign in 2009 when 137 people died after drinking illicit liquor?" questioned RS Bharathi.

Kallakurichi Hooch Tragedy:

According to the reports, over than 50 people lost their lives in Karunapuram, Kallakurichi district of Tamil Nadu after consuming spurious liquor sold in packets and sachets. Many people experienced problems like diarrhea, vomiting, stomach ache, and irritation in the eyes and later succumbed to death.

Dozens are still in critical condition.

According to Chief Minister MK Stalin, the deaths were caused by the consumption of 'methanol mixed arrack'.
