Tamil Nadu Dam Levels Today: Check Water Level In Mettur, Krishnagiri, Others On July 24

The water level at Mettur Dam has risen to 86.85 feet, up from 82 feet on Tuesday morning. This increase is attributed to the release of water from Karnataka's Krishnaraja Sagar and Kabini dams, driven by substantial inflows from ongoing rains.

By Tuesday evening, the water level had surpassed 83.98 feet, and it has now reached 86.85 feet. The dam's full capacity is 120 feet.

Just last week, the water level was at 44.62 feet. On July 14, Karnataka began releasing water into the Cauvery River at a rate of 20,000 cusecs, which was later increased to 80,000 cusecs.

The surge in water inflow, surpassing the outflow, has led to a steady rise in the Mettur Dam's water level. This trend is not isolated to Mettur; many dams across the region are experiencing increasing water levels.

Tamil Nadu's extensive network of dams plays a crucial role in managing the state's water resources. These engineering marvels are vital for ensuring a stable water supply for drinking, agriculture, and electricity generation.

The state is home to 116 large dams, with 78 managed by the Tamil Nadu Water Resources Department (TNWRD). Prominent dams, such as the Mettur Dam on the Cauvery River and the Vaigai Dam in the Western Ghats, are essential for agriculture, power generation, and overall water supply management.
