Tamil Nadu Cops' Son Hacks IT Employee To Death Allegedly Over Inter-Caste Relationship

A young man, the son of police officers, has been arrested in connection with the murder of an IT professional in Tirunelveli. The incident occurred on a Sunday and is believed to be linked to an disapproved romantic relationship and caste issues, Times of India reported.

The victim, C Kavin Selva Ganesh, was brutally killed in broad daylight in Palayamkottai. This attack is thought to have been motivated by tensions surrounding his relationship with S Subhashini, a Siddha practitioner. Kavin's family claims that Subhashini's relatives were against their relationship as they belonged to different castes.

Allegations of Caste-Based Violence

Kavin, originally from Eral in Thoothukudi, was in Palayamkottai with his brother for their grandfather's medical needs. According to police reports, Kavin had been involved with Subhashini.

They have known each other since school days. Her family, reportedly from the Maravar community, had previously threatened him. Despite these threats, Kavin only confided in his younger brother and did not take further action.

On the day of the incident, Kavin visited Subhashini's clinic. There he encountered her brother Surjith (21), who allegedly used casteist slurs before attacking him with a sickle. Kavin tried to escape but was pursued and killed. Surjith fled immediately after committing the crime.

Police Investigation and Arrests

Following this tragic event, Kavin's parents accused Subhashini's family of orchestrating a caste-based murder. The police has registered a case under various sections, including murder and provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Take a Poll

Surjith surrendered on Monday along with his parents Krishnakumari and Saravanan, both serving as police sub-inspectors. As investigations proceed, these officers have been placed on a waiting list rather than active duty.

Ongoing Investigations

The authorities have sent Kavin's body for post-mortem examination as part of their investigation. They are also reviewing surveillance footage to gather more evidence related to this horrific crime.
