Tamil Nadu CM Vijay Announces Free Electricity Up To 200 Units, Women Safety Force In First Orders

Newly sworn-in Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay on Sunday signed his first three executive orders shortly after taking oath, announcing free electricity for households consuming up to 200 units once every two months, the launch of a special women's safety force named "Singappen", and the formation of anti-narcotics units across the State.

The announcements came minutes after the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam chief was sworn in as the 17th Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in a high-profile ceremony attended by party leaders, supporters and alliance representatives.

Free Electricity Up To 200 Units

Among the first welfare measures announced by the new government, households consuming up to 200 units of electricity once every two months will now receive free power benefits under the scheme introduced by the Vijay-led government.

The announcement is being viewed as one of the biggest early "freebie" measures rolled out by the new administration after assuming office.

'Singappen' Force For Women's Safety

Chief Minister Vijay also announced the creation of a dedicated rapid response force named "Singappen" aimed at improving women's safety across Tamil Nadu.

The specialised unit is expected to focus on emergency response, women's protection and faster action in safety-related complaints.

Anti-Narcotics Units Across Tamil Nadu

As part of his first administrative decisions, Vijay approved the establishment of anti-narcotics units throughout the State to strengthen action against drug-related activities and substance abuse.

Officials said the move is intended to improve enforcement and monitoring efforts at the district level.

Vijay Takes Oath As Tamil Nadu CM

Earlier in the day, Joseph Vijay took oath as Tamil Nadu's new Chief Minister in the presence of Governor R. V. Arlekar, who administered the oath of office.

Reading from the prescribed text, Vijay said: "I, Joseph C Vijay, swear in the name of God that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the Constitution of India..."

The ceremony began with the singing of 'Vande Mataram', followed by the national anthem and 'Tamil Thai Vazhthu'. Thousands of supporters gathered to witness the actor-turned-politician formally assume office.
