Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin Throws Decode Indus Valley Script Challenge; Chance To Win USD 1 Million Prize
MK Stalin has announced a USD 1 million prize to decode the Indus Valley Civilisation script during a centenary event in Chennai, highlighting Tamil Nadu's cultural connections to this ancient society.
Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister, MK Stalin, has announced a USD 1 million prize for anyone who can successfully decode the scripts of the Indus Valley Civilisation. This announcement was made during the centenary celebration of the Indus Valley Civilisation conference in Chennai. The reward aims to encourage efforts to unravel the mystery of this ancient script, which remains undeciphered.
The Indus Valley Civilisation is one of the earliest urban societies known for its advanced urban planning and mysterious script. Despite extensive research, historians and scholars have yet to decipher this script or fully understand why this civilisation declined. The enigma continues to intrigue researchers worldwide.

Indus Valley's Historical Significance
In 1924, Sir John Marshall's discovery brought global attention to the Indus Valley Civilisation. This finding reshaped historical narratives by highlighting a rich heritage that predates Aryan and Sanskrit influences. "John Marshall's research was a turning point that highlighted a rich, independent heritage predating those claims," stated Stalin.
MK Stalin also highlighted connections between Tamil Nadu and the Indus Valley Civilisation. Research indicates similarities between artifacts from both regions. Symbols of bulls, representing Dravidian culture, are prevalent in Indus artifacts, while horse depictions are absent. This suggests cultural links between these ancient societies.
Scientific Findings and Cultural Links
Artifacts from Tamil Nadu sites like Sivakalai, Adichanallur, and Mayiladumparai show significant resemblance to those from the Indus Valley. Pottery inscriptions from these sites exhibit a 90% similarity with Indus inscriptions. Scientific dating confirms that their Iron Age timeline aligns with that of the Indus Valley Civilisation.
The Chief Minister emphasised these findings as evidence of shared cultural roots between Tamil Nadu and the Indus Valley region. He noted that symbols and inscriptions found at Tamil Nadu sites bear a 60% resemblance to those of the Indus Valley.
This initiative by MK Stalin not only seeks to solve an ancient mystery but also underscores Tamil Nadu's historical significance in relation to the Indus Valley Civilisation. By offering this prize, he aims to inspire scholars and researchers to delve deeper into understanding this enigmatic script.
