Tamil Nadu: Chennai To Coimbatore Bus Falls Into Ditch In Chengalpattu District; 1 Dead, 20 Injured

A bus carrying more than 45 people fell into a ditch in Chengalpattu district in Tamil Nadu. According to the reports, the bus was destined from Chennai to Coimbatore which overturned claiming the life of one passenger and leaving 20 injured.

After being informed by the locals, the Chengalpattu Taluk police acted swiftly to reach the spot and rescue the stuck commuters. Police also recovered the deceased's body and sent it to a government hospital for autopsy. The accident happened due to the heavy rainfall causing low visibility, as per the report registered by the Chengalpattu Taluk Police after the accident.

The police identified the deceased as Manikandan, a resident of Kanyakumari. The reports suggest that the driver, Arun Kumar (30), lost control of the bus when it was passing by Pazhaveli village on the Chennai-Trichy National Highway.

The twenty people with injuries received medical attention before being admitted to a nearby hospital in Chengalpattu district.

A few days ago, in another accident, five passengers died and around 60 were injured when a state government bus had collided head-on with an omnibus at the Chennai-Bengaluru national highway. To help the injured, Police, 10 ambulances had rushed to the spot at that time, according to the police report.

"The accident occurred at about 4 am. The SETC bus hit the median and collided with the omnibus leading to the mishap," a police official said.
