Tamil Nadu: Minor who 'married' Class 12 student at bus stop held, girl sent for counselling

Chennai, Oct 12: A 17-year-old boy who allegedly tied a mangalsutra (marital thread) around a class 12 student's neck in Chidambaram in Tamil Nadu, has been held after the video of the incident went viral.

The boy, a student a private polytechnic college, tied 'mangal sutra' around the 16-year-old girl's neck at a bus stop even as onlookers watched. As the clip went viral, the District Child Protection Unit launched an investigation and held the boy.

After questioning the juvenile for several hours, he was sent to a government-run home for children in conflict with the law, according to a report in Hindustan Times.

The minor girl was taken to the office of the Child Welfare Committee for counselling.

"They definitely knew what they were doing. It is an offence," police superintendent S Sakthi Ganesan told Hindustan Times.

The cops have arrested P Balaji Ganesh for allegedly spreading the clip on social media platforms and a has been registered against him under relevant section of the Juvenile Justice Act, Prevention of Women Harassment Act, and SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, The Hindu reported.
