Tamil Nadu Biryani Mystery: Cannibal Couple Served Biryani Made With Crows In Thiruvallur; Couple Arrested

An unusual event has emerged from Thiruvallur, Tamil Nadu, where a couple was found preparing biryani using crows. The forest department intervened and issued a warning along with a fine. This peculiar incident has captured attention due to its nature.

Forest officials discovered that Ramesh and Bhuchamma were involved in killing crows in Toraipakkam village, close to the Nayapakkam reserve. Upon reaching their residence, authorities seized 19 crows. The couple claimed they caught the birds for food, but suspicions arose about supplying crow meat to roadside eateries.

Concerns Over Crow Population

The forest department expressed worries about the dwindling crow population. Officials highlighted that such practices could further reduce their numbers. Despite the couple's assertion that consuming crow meat poses no health risks, authorities remain concerned about ecological impacts.

Under the Forest Department Protection Act of 1972, crows are classified as pests. Consequently, Ramesh and Bhuchamma were not arrested but faced a Rs 5,000 fine for forest encroachment. A case was also registered against them to address this issue legally.

Suspicions of Meat Supply

While questioning the couple, it was revealed that Ramesh has four daughters and one son. The family allegedly resorted to catching crows for sustenance. However, officials suspect that the real motive might be supplying crow meat to small non-vegetarian restaurants on highways.

This incident highlights broader concerns about wildlife protection and human activities affecting animal populations. It serves as a reminder of the delicate balance between human needs and environmental conservation.
