Tamil Director Mohan Arrested Over Comments On Palani Panchamirtham Prasadam

Tamil film director G Mohan was arrested by the Trichy District Cybercrime Police on Tuesday following his alleged controversial comments about a religious offering, 'Panchamirtham', served at the famous Palani temple in Tamil Nadu.

Trichy District Superintendent of Police, Varun Kumar, confirmed that Mohan was apprehended in Chennai and is being transported to Trichy for further questioning. The arrest follows an uproar over remarks Mohan made, claiming that contraceptive medicine was mixed in Panchamirtham, a prasadam considered sacred by devotees.

Ashvathaman Allimuthu, the BJP Chennai President, criticized the manner of the arrest, alleging on social media platform X that Mohan was detained without prior notice and that his family was left uninformed about the reasons for his arrest or his whereabouts.

Known for his work on Tamil films such as Pazhaya Vannarapettai, Draupathi, Rudhra Thandavam, and Bakasuran, Mohan has gained attention not only for his films but for his outspoken presence on social media. His latest comments on Panchamirtham, following concerns over adulterated ghee in Tirupati Laddu, sparked widespread controversy, leading to calls for action against the director.

The Tamil Nadu Police arrested Mohan at his residence in Kasimedu, Chennai. He was subsequently handed over to the authorities in Trichy, where further action is expected. This arrest comes amid increasing tensions over Mohan's frequent provocative statements.

Mohan, who recently began filming a new project with actor Richard Rishi, is known for his controversial yet popular films. The duo previously collaborated on the successful films 'Draupadi' and 'Rudhra Thandavam'.

The incident comes to light when the row over the alleged usage of adulterated ghee in the Tirupati laddu has hit the national headlines.
