Strangulation of Democracy: Vijay Blasts DMK Over Alleged Attack on TVK Workers In Chennai

TVK chief Vijay has taken to social media to launch a scathing attack on the ruling DMK government, accusing the ruling DMK of assaulting his party workers.

Tensions in Tamil Nadu's political landscape reached a boiling point today after a violent clash broke out in Chennai's Parrys (Barimuna) area.

In a post on X, the actor-turned-politician has alleged that his party workers were allegedly assaulted by a mob while conducting a ground-level field survey for the upcoming assembly elections.

According to the actor-turned-politician, TVK workers were engaged in routine door-to-door surveys to assess public sentiment in North Chennai when they were surrounded by a group of over 100 individuals.

The confrontation quickly turned physical. In a shocking revelation, Vijay confirmed that six party members were injured, including a four-month pregnant woman executive. Two of the victims are currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) battling serious injuries, while four others are receiving treatment at a local hospital.

Expressing his outrage on X (formerly Twitter), Vijay did not mince words, directly blaming the ruling party for the violence. "The anarchic attack by more than 100 raiders belonging to the ruling party is a strangulation of democracy. It shows the DMK's fear of failure," Vijay stated.

The TVK chief argued that the ruling dispensation is unable to digest the "growing influence" and public respect his party has garnered in a short span. He further warned that the electorate would not remain silent spectators to such "anarchic" tactics. "The people of Tamil Nadu will surely teach a lesson to the ruling party in the upcoming elections," he added.

TVK has been aggressively focusing on Chennai and its surrounding constituencies, with rumors suggesting that Vijay himself might contest from a seat in the capital region.

Political analysts suggest that the "field survey" model is TVK's way of identifying strongholds where they can disrupt the traditional DMK-AIADMK binary. By targeting the ruling party directly over law and order, Vijay is positioning TVK as the primary challenger to the DMK's hegemony.
