Stalin's ambition to make Tamil Nadu an 'all-round State' is appropriate: Sports critic

Tamil Nadu Sports Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, a sports enthusiast himself, always tries to boost the sports sector through his unique initiatives. This time, his goal is to solicit corporate money in order to convert Tamil Nadu into a ''sports capital''.

The 'Tamil Nadu Champions Foundation' was founded as a step towards this goal, with its motto introduced by the legendary sports personality 'Thala' Dhoni. The foundation intends to raise cash for its operations from corporate companies.

During the official ceremony, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin showed his support by personally providing Rs 5 lakh to ensure the foundation's smooth operation.

In an interview to this correspondent, eminent sports critic and writer Raghu talked about his efforts to acquire cash from Tamil Nadu government enterprises. He gave detailed information regarding Udhayanidhi's 'Champions Foundation', emphasising its importance in developing the sports industry through corporate fundraising.

Raghu admitted that the government's fiscal constraints, mostly due to duties to sectors such as education and healthcare, limit the distribution of cash to sports. As a result, the sports industry is facing growing hurdles.

The Champions Foundation, the Sports Minister's initiative, tackles this issue by allowing non-government funding to be used to benefit athletics. The major goal of the foundation is to capitalise on this advantage.

Increased funding unambiguously escalates excitement in the sports community. However, given the government's role in obtaining these resources, Raghu emphasised the significance of maintaining objectivity in the allocation and utilisation of corporate resources.

Similarly, whether it's a player or a squad, it's critical to offer consistent funding for a certain period of time with no breaks. Only then can a person or team hit the intended target and take home the State award. The efforts of the athlete or team will be largely wasted as soon as funds are not consistently and effectively allocated.

Raghu emphasises the significance of this issue, saying, "The government should consider this matter. It is critical to give athletes stable funding. I am grateful for Chief Minister M.K. Stalin's personal donation of Rs 5 lakh. However, funds obtained from corporate organisations should not be restricted to a single sport but distributed evenly among all sports. Social justice must be preserved."

"It is advantageous for the government to hold such a viewpoint, and I welcome it. Sports should be a place where social fairness reigns supreme. I share the same sentiment as a sports fan. It is not only about winning Olympic gold; every child should have the opportunity to participate in sports for at least one hour every day during the school year. That is what is genuinely important," he continues.

''The ambitious goal of Chief Minister Stalin of developing Tamil Nadu into an 'All-round State' is admirable. Tamil Nadu has long been known as an all-round State in Sports. We excel in various sports, especially athletics, team sports, volleyball and basketball. However, in order to compete on an international level in team sports and qualify for the Olympics, we must put in more work,'' he added.

Raghu emphasises the importance of a comprehensive strategy, saying, "Our government's goal should not be limited to promoting sports at the state level. Our ultimate goal is to win medals. The selection of Udhayanidhi Stalin as Sports Minister is advantageous in numerous respects. It will draw more attention to this industry and result in more funding. He will most likely strategise in order to make significant success in his department. All of these criteria, when combined, will provide favourable results."

In conclusion, maintaining constant funding, supporting social justice and nurturing holistic growth in athletics will pave an avenue for Tamil Nadu's athletic endeavours to succeed.
