Silent Superstars: Why Are Rajinikanth & Kamal Haasan Missing From Tamil Nadu Flood Relief?
Chennai: While Kerala's floods witnessed an outpouring of support from Tamil Nadu's biggest stars, the recent floods in Chennai, Tirunelveli, and Tuticorin have been met with a conspicuous silence from Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. This has left many fans and citizens questioning their absence in supporting their own state during these times of crisis.
Both actors have a history of philanthropy, with Rajinikanth donating Rs. 10 crore for Chennai flood relief in 2015 and Kamal Haasan also contributing Rs. 15 lakh. Additionally, both actors actively supported Kerala's flood relief efforts in 2018.

In 2018, when Kerala faced devastating floods, Haasan donated Rs. 25 lakh, while Rajinikanth contributed Rs. 15 lakh. Their contributions were lauded then for their timeliness and magnitude.
Whatever the reason this time, the public perception of Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan's silence remains. Some fans express disappointment, feeling their idols have abandoned their responsibility towards their own state. Others defend the actors, citing possible private contributions or criticizing the media for focusing on their absence rather than highlighting the work of countless other volunteers and donors.

Although Kamal Haasan did not fund the relief works openly, he visited Ennore Creek some days back, where a recent oil spill from Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL) has devastated the environment and livelihoods of local fishermen, but Rajinikanth did not show his face in any matter related to the flood relief works, and did not give any funds too.
It's important to remember that charitable giving is a private decision, and judging these actors solely based on their public contributions might be unfair. However, their silence also underscores the complex relationship between celebrity status, social responsibility, and public expectations.
Regardless of the reasons behind their actions, the recent floods in Tamil Nadu highlight the critical need for continued support and assistance. Whether from celebrities, ordinary citizens, or the government, every effort to alleviate the suffering of those affected is crucial. The people of Tamil Nadu need and deserve all the help they can get, irrespective of the source.

The month of December 2023 will be etched in the memory of Tamil Nadu as a season of unrelenting rain and devastating floods. While the state has grappled with monsoon fury in the past, the sheer intensity and widespread impact of this year's floods were unprecedented. Two regions bore the brunt of the deluge - Chennai, the state capital, and the southern districts of Nellai (Tirunelveli) and Tuticorin.
The floods left behind a trail of devastation. Infrastructure damage, crop losses, and disruption of essential services posed immense challenges. The long road to recovery is underway, with the state government and local communities working tirelessly to rebuild lives and livelihoods.
