SC axes Tamil Nadu govt administration in Nataraja temple

In 2009, the Madras High Court had transeferred the administration of the temple to the M Karunanidhi-led government, suspecting mismanagement of finances.
The decision, however, was challenged by the priests (belonging to the Dikshithar sect) and BJP leader Subramanian Swamy. Further earlier in 1987, the state government had appointed an official to manage the finances, properties and the endowments of the temple.
The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is spread over an area of 40 acres.
