Sale Of Bharat Rice Started In Tamil Nadu's Chennai Through Vans

Door-to-door moving vans started supplying and selling Bharat Rice on Tuesday in Tamil Nadu's Chennai. Bharat Rice vans, a joint initiative by the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) under the Ministry of Agriculture, and the National Cooperative Consumers' Federation of India (NCCF) under the Ministry of Food and Consumer Affairs provide 5 kg and 10 kg packs of rice at a very nominal cost of Rs. 29 per kg.

The sale of Bharat rice, at a subsidised rate, is an initiative by the Narendra Modi government to tackle inflation and support people who are below the poverty line. The government is providing Bharat rice that matches the quality of Ponni rice available in retail stores at Rs 40 to 50 per kg.

As per official reports, Tamil Nadu has been allocated a total of 22,000 metric tons (MT) of rice, out of which the National Cooperative Consumers' Federation (NCCF) is tasked with selling 10,000 MT. An official mentioned that they have deployed two vans for this purpose, one stationed near the NCCF office at Thousand Light and the other in Anna Nagar. The rice packs are available for purchase at Rs. 29 per kilogram, with a current limit of two to three bags per person.

The official informed the consumers that good quality atta Bharat atta is available at the cost of Rs. 27.5 per kg and Bharat Chana dal at Rs. 60 per kg. He added the Union Government intends to expand its reach and availability and soon Bharat rice, Bharat Atta, and Bharat Chana dal will be supplied door-to-door in 25 to 26 districts of Tamil Nadu through moving vans.
