The intense rain caused severe disruptions across the town, with streets turning into rivers and vehicles struggling to navigate the waterlogged roads.

Videos of the inundated streets quickly went viral, capturing the extent of the chaos.

Several housing colonies and roads were submerged, leading to widespread disruption of daily life. In a rain-related incident, a 40-year-old man was feared washed away in stormwater, prompting Congress legislator M. Vaithianathan to rush to the scene on Friday night.

As per the weather agency, the rains are expected lash the coastal town for the next few days.

He mobilized the official machinery to intensify the search for the missing person.

Residents were caught off guard by the sudden and heavy rains, with floodwaters entering homes and triggering panic among the population.

In response to the severe weather, the territorial government declared a holiday for all schools, including aided institutions, on Saturday.
