One-Stop Ticketing Solution In Chennai: CUMTA To Launch Common Transport App For Metro, Bus & Train
Chennai commuters will soon enjoy a one-stop ticketing solution as the Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (CUMTA) prepares to launch its common ticketing system app by April.
One App To Book Travel Tickets In Chennai

The app will allow passengers to book tickets across MTC buses, Chennai Metro Rail, and suburban train services through a single platform, making travel more convenient across the city's public transport network.
The initiative follows the recent introduction of the Singara Chennai Card, a smart card that facilitates cashless travel on MTC buses and metro trains. Unlike UPI-based payments that face hurdles like poor internet connectivity and overcrowded buses, the Singara Chennai Card works offline, making it faster and more efficient for daily commuters.
Travel Made Easy: CUMTA's Unified Ticketing App to Link MTC, Metro & Suburban Trains
The CUMTA app aims to unify ticketing for the city's three major transport operators. While metro and suburban rail services already offer online booking, MTC's digital ticketing system is in its final stages and expected to be integrated into the app soon, according to a report in the English daily The Hindu.
The Singara Chennai cards have received a positive response, especially since they work offline - unlike UPI payments that faced challenges in overcrowded buses and areas with poor internet connectivity. These cards can be recharged online or at transit hubs with a minimum recharge of ₹100. They can be purchased at 20 bus terminals, including Koyambedu, Broadway, Tambaram, and Ambattur, as well as metro stations.
With the app set to launch by April, the city is moving closer to a seamless, cashless public transport experience, making daily commutes smoother and more efficient.
Officials believe that the common ticketing system app will significantly enhance the city's public transport experience, reducing the hassle of carrying exact change and streamlining ticket purchases.
